Types of Braces

Thanks to today’s advances in orthodontic technology,  Becker & Scott Orthodontics can provide our patients with more options when it comes to wearing braces than ever before. While traditional metal braces are still widely used, clear braces are very popular with teens and adults who are self-conscious about wearing braces, and the Invisalign removable clear aligner system is a “braceless” alternative for straight teeth.

Dr. Becker & Dr. Scott will help you determine which treatment option is right for you.

Damon Braces (metal)

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of brace used today.  The metal brace that we use in our office is the Damon System, which is a revolutionary way to straighten teeth.  The Damon brace is self-ligating, which means that the brace has a door built into it, so the colored ties are no longer necessary. These braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever before, and they are constructed of high-grade space age metal alloys.  With the Damon System, treatment times with many patients are reduced, while maintaining maximum patient comfort.

Clarity Braces

Clear braces are made of materials, such as ceramic and polycarbonate, and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, clear braces are used mainly on teenage and adult patients who have esthetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do still require attention to oral hygiene. The drawback to clear braces is that they are more fragile and the braces and elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits with certain foods and smoking.

Invisalign

Clear appliances, such as Invisalign, use a series of clear, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. No one can tell you are wearing those aligners because they are practically invisible! Invisalign aligners are removable so you are not limited in what you can eat and drink during treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing can be less of a hassle.
